Over the past decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has completely revolutionized the entertainment landscape. The film franchise based on Marvel Comics characters is by far the most lucrative in history, and can claim five of the top twelve highest-grossing movies ever as its own. With its unprecedented number of interweaving of films and recurring characters, Marvel Studios has changed how movies are made, spawning Hollywood’s ongoing (and often ill-advised) “cinematic universe” craze.
British model Lauren Coogan left the Love Island US villa single last summer, but she found romance very soon after filming wrapped in Las Vegas. As she later explained in an interview, Lauren met Garrett Morosky — who’s now competing on HBO Max’s FBoy Island — at the airport the same day she left the CBS reality series. Lauren said she was “struggling” with her bags at the airport when Garrett approached her. “He kind of just asked me if I needed help, and I did,” she told Film Daily in December 2020. “I was stressed and tired from the show and, you know, we had a few drinks at the airport bar.”

Love Is Blind star Giannina Gibelli was thrown for a loop during the series’ recent After the Altar reunion special when her ex Damian Powers showed up to the set with another woman: Francesca Farago. Gibelli and Powers met in 2018 while filming Season 1 of Netflix’s socially distanced reality dating series and subsequently got engaged — only for him to leave her at the altar on their wedding day mere weeks later. While the pair reconciled off-camera and dated for another two years, they officially called it quits in August 2020. The same month, he was spotted at dinner with Farago in West Hollywood but denied any romantic involvement between them.
Simone Biles sparked conversation last week when she pulled out of the team and all-around finals at the Summer Olympics in order to preserve her mental health, with fans and celebrities like Taylor Swift offering support and praise to Team USA’s most decorated gymnast. She also garnered some criticism for the decision, especially from conservative media personalities Piers Morgan and Charlie Kirk, who called her “selfish” and “weak.” Following her triumphant return to the competition and bronze win at the Aug. 3 balance beam final, however, Biles told reporters that her family also suffered the loss of her aunt this past week.
HBO Max’s FBoy Island is as much a dating series as it is a detective show. After arriving in the Cayman Islands, leads Sarah Emig, CJ Franco, and Nakia Renee are tasked with figuring out which of their 24 men are self-proclaimed nice guys looking for a real relationship, and which are just Fboys there for a shot at the $100,000 prize. Victoria Justice was always the life of the party as Tori Vega, the aspiring pop star at the center of TeenNick’s 2010s sitcom Victorious. Now, she’s letting loose once again in Afterlife of the Party, Netflix’s highly anticipated new film. Bustle is pleased to reveal an exclusive first look at the movie, which stars Justice as Cassie — a party planner who celebrates her 25th birthday with an epic, multi-day bash dubbed “Cassie-palooza” (think Trina Vega’s birth-week on Victorious). But things take a turn when she dies in a freak accident right before her big day — and just after a friendship-ending fight with her longtime BFF, Lisa (Midori Francis).
Netflix’s new true crime series, Cocaine Cowboys: Kings of Miami, chronicles the rise and fall of two of the most notorious drug dealers in U.S. history. Known as “Los Muchachos,” Sal Magluta and Augusto “Willie” Falcon are alleged to have smuggled over 75 tons of cocaine into North America during the 1980s, amassing an estimated $2.1 billion in cash and assets. The two evaded prison time for years, but were eventually arrested in 1991. Following a controversial trial, Falcon took a plea deal in 2003 and served 14 years in prison before being deported to the Dominican Republic. Magluta, who was considered to be the brains behind the operation, is still in prison.
This week’s episode of The Bachelorette left Katie and Greg shippers with mixed feelings. Greg’s declaration of love during his hometown date was met with a lukewarm response from Katie, prompting a very controversial reaction from the 28-year-old marketing manager that some viewers chalked up to past trauma. Other fans, however, feel strongly that Greg’s behavior was an example of gaslighting and emotional manipulation, but former contestant Connor B. has come to his friend’s defense.

“Main Character Energy” is the self-love mantra of 2021. The TikTok trend advises people to behave as if they’re protagonists in a movie — and yes, it’s just as extra as it sounds. Since the #MainCharacterEnergy hashtag emerged on TikTok last year, thousands of videos have been made satirizing this distinct brand of heightened, over-the-top conduct. Standing up to a bully? Don’t settle it in the principal’s office; make an impassioned speech in the middle of your high school cafeteria instead. Breaking up with someone who treated you poorly? Decry their misdeeds from the top of your lungs!

Paris Hilton has worn quite a few hats throughout her decades-long career. Born into a family known for their hotels, Hilton made a name for herself as a model and New York socialite in the late ’90s, earning “It Girl” status by the turn of the millennium. In the early aughts, she starred alongside her then-bestie Nicole Richie in the hit reality show The Simple Life, which saw them working (and often failing at) low-paying jobs; it ran for five seasons and launched them both into global fame. Then, Hilton forayed into acting in films like Raising Helen and House of Wax, launched a music career and scored a lasting hit with “Stars Are Blind,” and began selling perfumes that would go on to gross over $2.5 billion worldwide.
Simone Biles is reportedly “leaving the door open” for an Olympic return. On Wednesday, Aug. 4, the 24-year-old gymnast sat down with Hoda Kotb to discuss her unique experience at the Tokyo Games after withdrawing from several competitions for her mental health. Biles backed out of the team all-around, the individual all-around, the vault, floor exercise, and uneven bar events after experiencing “the twisties,” a mental block that disconnects an athlete’s mind and body during a routine. She later won the bronze medal in the women’s balance beam competition, and although she’s not ruling out competing in 2024, she told Kotb that she’s still trying to “relish and take this Olympics in.”
